Requirements

To make the PCBA process as soom as possible, we ask that you read the following information on how we operate so that your projects can be assembled.

Assembly Files

Typically you will only need to send the exported assembly files to us. This includes the BOM and Pick and Place files.

You will need to send us Gerber files if you would like us to source the PCBs for you. You must include all copper layers, top and bottom text, outline and v-scoring. Ideally also include manufacturing details (layer stack info) in the Gerber files for the PCB fabricators.

If you wish for us to handle the exporting of these files, the creation of panels, v-scoring etc. We are able to accept Altium Designer, EasyEDA, KiCad and CircuitMaker/Circuit Studio project files.

We only accept panelized boards at this time!
Panel edges should be at least 5mm and have 2mm positioning holes and fiducial marks (copper layer) on each corner. Panel rotation should also be marked on the edge to show the rotation and TOP and BOTTOM should also be shown.

You should avoid placing connectors over the panel edges unless they are being hand placed or the panel edges are long enough so that the components do not interfere with the pick and place machine’s belt.

Component rotation should be clearly marked on the silkscreen! Dots or lines next to pin 1 on packages, a break in the silkscreen for diodes, arrows for LEDs etc. The rotation should be clearly defined and documented.

Customer supplied components

We accept components from customers for production runs. You may either supply all the components needed for single or multiple runs or some of the components if you require us to source some for you or if you plan on using our own stock.

Components will need to be sent to us at least a few days prior to your board’s assembly date. We advise sending them a few weeks ahead just in case of any issues.

Components should be correctly labelled with their MPN, Quantity and a customer number that we supply to you. They should also be in the manufacturer’s packing or distributor’s packaging with desiccant packets.

Components for the pick and place machine should be reeled, though we do accept cut tape if you are unable to get it on a reel. Please note that with cut tape, typically we lose the first 2-3 cm of the tape. For low-cost components, this is not a concern but higher cost components will be captured for rework or return. For this reason, please buy more than enough of each component to account for the loss of the first few on the tape plus any being lost in the pick and place machine.

Components should come on a single reel or tape unless if the number of components exceeds the size of the reel.

Trays should be as full as possible. Tubes should be at least 60cm in length.

We do not accept loose components unless they are being hand placed.

Customer supplied PCBs and Stencils

PCBs should be supplied panelized unless necessary (limitation on size or a large number of components per board).

PCBs should be designed in accordance with the Assembly Files section above.

PCBs should be supplied with at least 1-2 extra boards or panels than the total amount wanted for the run.

Stencils should be supplied in a frame. Double-sided boards/panels should be supplied with 2 stencils. We do not accept non-framework stencils other than for small production runs.
